German Gothic Superhero – Eszett Logo Design
The Sulzbacher Eszett (or Esszet) is my favorite glyph in the white romanized languages. It reminds me something mysterious and powerful about the combined shape of the glyph and maybe it is because I’ve been for a long time around German Bauhaus architects who have an extensive diabolic collection of documents all written in Blackletter Fraktur.
If you don’t know the history of this symbol, start your journey in this typography section in which there is a link to the great essay written by Historian James Mosley. The sad part is that in Germany’s new rules of spelling the glyph is being abandoned and will only exist in the contemporary German language as a ligatured form of the double s.
Knowing that, I’ve made this original logo (with the same intentions as the Superman logo since it is related to the S letter but more ancient in ideas) to identify my German Gothic superhero and his dark symbol. The high resolution vector print is available in the Fantasy section should you want to order the t-shirt and support a great German superhero. Sorry, Marvel Comics! I got the idea first for a new superhero action film!
